Rules and Qualifying/Race Format
The qualifying round sees each team racing by themselves against the clock. The aim of the qualifying round is to simply set the fastest possible time out of all the teams. In the Olympic Games qualfying teams will then progress into a knock round against another team, with the two eventual surviving teams competing for the Gold and Silver and the next two competing for the Bronze medal. In the World Championships and World Cup Classics meetings, the top two from the qualifying round progress straight to the final and the third and fourth quickest fight it out for the bronze medal.

Famous quotes containing the words rules and/or race:
“Trust men, and they will be true to you; treat them greatly, and they will show themselves great, though they make an exception in your favor to all their rules of trade.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Twas mercy brought me from my Pagan land,
Taught my benighted soul to understand
That theres a God, that theres a Saviour too:
Once I redemption neither sought nor knew.
Some view our sable race with scornful eye,
Their color is a diabolic die.
Remember, Christians, Negroes, black as Cain,
May be refind, and join th angelic train.”
—Phillis Wheatley (c. 17531784)
