History and Work
The Taco Shop Poets are often credited with single-handedly reviving, redefining, and revolutionizing spoken word {http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Rhyme-for-a-Reason-San-Jose-festival-celebrates-2927773.php}. They employed a very aggressive style of guerilla poetry noted for its improvisational nature and combining punk and hip-hop influences. The collective's legacy is recognized worldwide and has spawned numerous copy-cat groups across the USA.
In 2002, members of the Taco Shop Poets and other like-minded individuals collaborated to create an artistic space to house and develop art. This developed into the non-profit organization, Voz Alta Project. Although the poets as a collective are no longer active on Voz Alta's board, most members participate in the Voz Alta movement as it continues to host events and artists.
The Taco Shop Poets are inactive as a collective, however each of the members are involved with performing or educating throughout the USA or abroad.

Famous quotes containing the words history and/or work:
“You treat world history as a mathematician does mathematics, in which nothing but laws and formulas exist, no reality, no good and evil, no time, no yesterday, no tomorrow, nothing but an eternal, shallow, mathematical present.”
—Hermann Hesse (18771962)
“The moralist and the revolutionary are constantly undermining one another. Marx exploded a hundred tons of dynamite beneath the moralist position, and we are still living in the echo of that tremendous crash. But already, somewhere or other, the sappers are at work and fresh dynamite is being tamped in place to blow Marx at the moon. Then Marx, or somebody like him, will come back with yet more dynamite, and so the process continues, to an end we cannot foresee.”
—George Orwell (19031950)
