Official Name of The Church
The official name of the Church is the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. In Malayalam, the church name translates to Syro-Malankara Catholica Sabha or Malankara Suriani Catholica Sabha. Another name that can be associated with the Church is Malankara Syrian Catholic Church of India.
The slang "Reeth" is used in a colloquial way in Malayalam to refer to the Church or its members by others (especially by other St.Thomas Syriac Christians). This term is neither accurate, nor encouraged, as it inaccurately refers to the "Rites" ("Reeth" in Malayalam) practiced by the Church, and can apply to the Rites of any self-governing Ritual Church.

Famous quotes containing the words official and/or church:
“There are few ironclad rules of diplomacy but to one there is no exception. When an official reports that talks were useful, it can safely be concluded that nothing was accomplished.”
—John Kenneth Galbraith (b. 1908)
“She say, Celie, tell the truth, have you ever found God in church? I never did. I just found a bunch of folks hoping for him to show. Any God I ever felt in church I brought in with me. And I think all the other folks did too. They come to church to share God, not find God.”
—Alice Walker (b. 1944)
