Symphony in E Flat (Tchaikovsky) - Form

Form

The Bogatyrev reconstruction follows the traditional four-movement pattern:

  1. Allegro brillante
This movement was used for the Third Piano Concerto, Op. posth. 75.
  2. Andante
Bogatyryev used the Andante from the Andante and Finale for Piano and Orchestra, Op. posth. 79, which had been constructed from Tchaikovsky's sketches by Sergei Taneyev. More recently, it was reused as the slow movement of a projected Cello Concerto.
  3. Scherzo: Vivace assai
Perceiving that Tchaikovsky would have written a scherzo for this symphony, Bogatyryev orchestrated this piece from Tchaikovsky's Scherzo-Fantasie, Op. 72, No. 10.
  4. Finale: Allegro maestoso
Bogatyryev used the Finale from the Andante and Finale.

Famous quotes containing the word form:

But as to women, who can penetrate
The real sufferings of their she condition?
Man’s very sympathy with their estate
Has much of selfishness and more suspicion.
Their love, their virtue, beauty, education,
But form good housekeepers, to breed a nation.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

Industrial societies turn their citizens into image-junkies; it is the most irresistible form of mental pollution. Poignant longings for beauty, for an end to probing below the surface, for a redemption and celebration of the body of the world. Ultimately, having an experience becomes identical with taking a photograph of it.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)

A criminal trial is like a Russian novel: it starts with exasperating slowness as the characters are introduced to a jury, then there are complications in the form of minor witnesses, the protagonist finally appears and contradictions arise to produce drama, and finally as both jury and spectators grow weary and confused the pace quickens, reaching its climax in passionate final argument.
    Clifford Irving (b. 1930)
