Swansea Building Society

The Swansea Building Society is a building society based in Swansea, Wales. It is a member of the Building Societies Association.

The Society was founded in 1923. Today it is one of only three remaining mutual building societies in Wales and claims to be only building society or bank with its headquarters in West Wales. At 31 December 2009, the Society's total assets were over £182m with over 8,000 savers accounts and 1,100 mortgage customers. The chief executive is Alun Williams.

Swansea Building Society benefited from the Icelandic financial crisis in 2009, as local savers looked to invest in a safer institution. The society opened a new branch outside Swansea city centre for the first time in its history. In May 2010, the society launched a savings account in partnership with Swansea City A.F.C., earning the club additional revenue through commission.

Famous quotes containing the words building and/or society:

Whoever places his trust into a system will soon be without a home. While you are building your third story, the two lower ones have already been dismantled.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)

A society which is clamoring for choice, which is filled with many articulate groups, each urging its own brand of salvation, its own variety of economic philosophy, will give each new generation no peace until all have chosen or gone under, unable to bear the conditions of choice. The stress is in our civilization.
    Margaret Mead (1901–1978)
