“Shall we now
Contaminate our fingers with base bribes,

Than such a Roman.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“When at last in a race a new principle appears, an ideathat conserves it; ideas only save races.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Like many businessmen of genius he learned that free competition was wasteful, monopoly efficient. And so he simply set about achieving that efficient monopoly.”
—Mario Puzo (b. 1920)
