Sur La Route is a Sirius XM Canada channel featuring hit music, new and old. It was born in November 2005 as part of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission's (CRTC) regulations for Canadian content on the XM platform, as well as 50% French language content. Due to bandwidth issues, the channel replaced XM and Worldspace's Ngoma. The channel broadcasts in the French language. In English "Sur La Route" means "On the road". It is also the French-language equivalent of Sirius XM channel The Blend and the satellite radio equivalent to the Rythme FM network, although Rythme FM is owned by Cogeco. A similar channel called L'Oasis francophone exists on Sirius Canada, although that channel is owned by Astral Media.
Sur La Route, while a French-language adult contemporary channel, signed on the air on November 17, 2005 on XM channel 102. It was moved to channel 97 in September 2008 to make room for the Sirius channels, and to channel 89 on November 12, 2008 as part of the channel consolidation of Sirius XM Radio. Mediabase continues to list the channel as X102-FM. On May 4, 2011, Sur La Route moved to channel 153, and a month later, Sirius XM Canada was formed as a result of the merger of Sirius Canada & XM Radio Canada. It is largely rumoured this channel will replace L'Oasis francophone for Sirius Canada listeners.
Famous quotes containing the word route:
“By whatever means it is accomplished, the prime business of a play is to arouse the passions of its audience so that by the route of passion may be opened up new relationships between a man and men, and between men and Man. Drama is akin to the other inventions of man in that it ought to help us to know more, and not merely to spend our feelings.”
—Arthur Miller (b. 1915)
