Other International Organizations With Some Degree of Integration
The only union generally recognized as having achieved the status of a supranational union is the European Union.
There are a number of other regional organisations that, while not supranational unions, have adopted or intend to adopt policies that may lead to a similar sort of integration in some respects.
- African Union (AU)
- Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
- Caribbean Community (CARICOM)
- Central American Integration System (SICA)
- Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (CCASG)
- Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC)
- South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC)
- Union of South American Nations (UNASUR)
- Union State
- Turkic Council (TurkKon)
- Economic Cooperation Organization(ECO)
Other organisations that have also discussed greater integration include:
- Arab League into an "Arab Union"
- North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) into the "North American Union"
- Pacific Islands Forum into the "Pacific Union"
- Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia into the "Eurasian Union"

Famous quotes containing the words degree and/or integration:
“When the world was half a thousand years younger all events had much sharper outlines than now. The distance between sadness and joy, between good and bad fortune, seemed to be much greater than for us; every experience had that degree of directness and absoluteness which joy and sadness still have in the mind of a child”
—Johan Huizinga (18721945)
“The only phenomenon with which writing has always been concomitant is the creation of cities and empires, that is the integration of large numbers of individuals into a political system, and their grading into castes or classes.... It seems to have favored the exploitation of human beings rather than their enlightenment.”
—Claude Lévi-Strauss (b. 1908)
