The Sunshine Coast Falcons are a rugby league team based on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. They played in the inaugural Queensland Cup in 1996, but left at the end of the season. Following a number of clubs leaving what was then known as the Mixwell Cup (now known as FOGS Cup), the Sunshine Coast successfully applied for a position in 2006.
In 2006, they played in the Queensland Cup. They were however, kicked out from the Competition at the end of the Season. The Club re-applied for the 12th Position in the Queensland Cup but their Bid was rejected & they have since returned all their Focus to the team in the FOGS Cup.
Shortly after signing a partnership with National Rugby League team the Manly Sea Eagles to develop rugby league on the Sunshine Coast, the Sunshine Coast Falcons said that they had already received conditional approval for acceptance into the Queensland Cup from the Queensland Rugby League, provided they come up with at least $500,000 in sponsorship money. Sunshine Coast Falcons CEO said that he was “very confident” that the club would attract enough sponsorship.
Famous quotes containing the words sunshine, coast and/or falcons:
“Ive been in one Derby, and this is my third Belmont. But Ive never thought of the fact that I havent won a Triple Crown race. Im not like that. I always look at the sunshine of things.”
—Julie Krone (b. 1963)
“On the Coast of Coromandel
Where the early pumpkins blow,
In the middle of the woods
Lived the Yonghy-Bonghy-Bo.
Two old chairs, and half a candle,
One old jug without a handle,
These were all his worldly goods:
In the middle of the woods,”
—Edward Lear (18121888)
“Thus piteously Love closed what he begat:
The union of this ever-diverse pair!
These two were rapid falcons in a snare,
Condemned to do the flitting of the bat.”
—George Meredith (18281909)
