Sunset Cinema Club

Sunset Cinema Club are a 3-piece band based in the Midlands, UK (Birmingham and home-town of Redditch). The group originally came together in 2001, originally as a hobby under the name "Peachfuzz". However, they eventually changed the name to "Sunset Cinema Club" in 2002. The groups name "Sunset Cinema Club'" was taken from the name of a Birmingham-based adult cinema that the childhood friends would often think about going into, but never did.

The groups sound has been coined by the NME as "Jitterpunk" (James Jam, NME 21st Oct 2006 pg.18) and is born of a melting pot of influences, all prominent in the mix - ranging from early Post-Hardcore (Fugazi, Minutemen), Post-Punk (Talking Heads, James Chance), Funk n’ Soul (Funkadelic, Kool & The Gang), Jazzy Psychedelia (Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart) and dischordant Indie of the early 90’s (Dinosaur Jr, Pixies).

Famous quotes containing the words sunset, cinema and/or club:

The word “conservative” is used by the BBC as a portmanteau word of abuse for anyone whose views differ from the insufferable, smug, sanctimonious, naive, guilt-ridden, wet, pink orthodoxy of that sunset home of the third-rate minds of that third-rate decade, the nineteen-sixties.
    Norman Tebbit (b. 1931)

Photography is truth. The cinema is truth twenty-four times per second.
    Jean-Luc Godard (b. 1930)

At first, it must be remembered, that [women] can never accomplish anything until they put womanhood ahead of wifehood, and make motherhood the highest office on the social scale.
“Jennie June” Croly 1829–1901, U.S. founder of the woman’s club movement, journalist, author, editor. Demorest’s Illustrated Monthly and Mirror of Fashions, pp. 24-5 (January 1870)
