Stuart Hall High School - 2010 Financial Crisis

2010 Financial Crisis

In June 2010, amid small incoming classes, the Board of Trustees of the Schools of the Sacred Heart considered closing down Stuart Hall High School. A recent seismic retrofit of a separate campus and dwindling interest in single-sex education placed the school in crisis. The incoming freshman class of 31 students complicated the situation, leading to the consideration of the board to close the school down.

On June 4, an email was sent to some senior parents detailing that the board was considering closing down the school. This was followed by several other email to members of the school community, spreading information about the possible closure.

Upon the conclusion of the online pledges, the Steering Committee met its goal of $3 million. The Steering Committee presented their plan to the members of the Board of Trustees, which voted unanimously in favor of it. The plan will use pledged money to ensure the ongoing survival of the school, as well as launch some operational cost cuts and intensify marketing and recruitment efforts. Under the newly adopted plan, Stuart Hall High School will remain open permanently while it builds itself financially.

Famous quotes containing the words financial and/or crisis:

America is a nation with no truly national city, no Paris, no Rome, no London, no city which is at once the social center, the political capital, and the financial hub.
    C. Wright Mills (1916–1962)

The easiest period in a crisis situation is actually the battle itself. The most difficult is the period of indecision—whether to fight or run away. And the most dangerous period is the aftermath. It is then, with all his resources spent and his guard down, that an individual must watch out for dulled reactions and faulty judgment.
    Richard M. Nixon (1913–1995)
