Streets Of Rage (series)

Streets of Rage, known in Japan as Bare Knuckle (ベア・ナックル Bea Nakkuru?), is a beat 'em up series developed and published by Sega exclusively for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. The series centers around the efforts of several heroes, including series mainstays Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding, to rid a troubled city from the rule of crime boss Mr. X and his syndicate. The first game in the series was released in 1991. Two sequels were also produced, adding various new characters and features.

The games were generally well received and have been re-released many times both as part of compilation games and as standalone downloads. The dance music-influenced soundtrack of the games, scored by Yuzo Koshiro, has received much acclaim as well.

There have been various efforts to revive the series, one of which resulted in the otherwise unrelated Eidos title Fighting Force. A short demo for the Dreamcast was produced, but nothing came of it. A fangame that combined elements from all three games called Streets of Rage Remake was released but was pulled at Sega's request.
