Liaozhai Zhiyi has inspired many Chinese film adaptations, including those by King Hu (Painted Skin), Gordon Chan (Painted Skin)Ching Siu-tung (A Chinese Ghost Story series) and the Taiwanese director Li Han-Hsiang.
