Storm Warning (audio Drama) - Continuity

Continuity

  • In the first part, Frayling is a Lieutenant Colonel supposedly in the RAF. For the rest of the story, he is referred to as a Lieutenant Commander. In fact, the RAF in 1930 had neither rank. The Army rank of Lieutenant Colonel is equivalent to the RAF rank of Wing Commander, and the Naval rank of Lieutenant Commander is equivalent to the RAF rank of Group Captain.
  • Lord Tamworth is referred to as a Brigadier General, presumably in the Army or RAF. The rank was abolished in the RAF in 1919 and replaced by Air Commodore. It was abolished in the Army and Royal Marines in 1922 and replaced by Colonel Commandant and later by Brigadier in 1928.
  • The opening events of this story are put into perspective in Terror Firma.
  • The Doctor keeps a lucky Altarian Dollar, a currency mentioned in Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Adams was a script writer for Doctor Who in the late 1970s and wrote three stories for the series.
  • Although the events portrayed are based upon an historical event, all of the characters involved are fictional.
  • The Doctor states several times that there were no survivors of the R101 crash. In actuality, they were eight. Two of these individuals later died from injuries sustained in the crash, bringing the total number of survivors to six.
  • This audio marks the first reference to an adventure the Eighth Doctor had in Geneva, involving Mary Shelley, Lord Byron and others on the night that Frankenstein was conceived. The references become a running joke, as the Doctor (often when knocked out) will blurt out references to "Mary". These comments are themselves likely references to the 1996 TV movie, where the Doctor's regeneration occurs while a mortician is watching the 1931 James Whale version of Frankenstein. What actually happened is revealed in the audio The Company of Friends, which also reveals that Mary Shelley at one point travelled with the Doctor. We see their first trip in the TARDIS together in The Silver Turk.
  • Ramsay the Vortisaur stays in the TARDIS until Minuet in Hell.

Famous quotes containing the word continuity:

If you associate enough with older people who do enjoy their lives, who are not stored away in any golden ghettos, you will gain a sense of continuity and of the possibility for a full life.
    Margaret Mead (1901–1978)

Every society consists of men in the process of developing from children into parents. To assure continuity of tradition, society must early prepare for parenthood in its children; and it must take care of the unavoidable remnants of infantility in its adults. This is a large order, especially since a society needs many beings who can follow, a few who can lead, and some who can do both, alternately or in different areas of life.
    Erik H. Erikson (1904–1994)

There is never a beginning, there is never an end, to the inexplicable continuity of this web of God, but always circular power returning into itself.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
