Re-election Campaigns
Lynch was unopposed in his bid for a full term in 2002 after defeating a nominal challenger in the Democratic primary. He has been reelected four times since then, running unopposed in 2004 and 2008, and defeating a nominal Republican challenger in 2006. Lynch was challenged by Mac D'Alessandro, a first-time candidate for office, who served as the New England political director for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which spent almost $300,000 on direct mail and other support for D'Alessandro, in the 2010 Democratic primary. Lynch won the Democratic primary in 2010 despite The Boston Globe's endorsement and support for D'Alessandro. He faced Independent Phil Dunkelbarger (who had challenged Lynch in 2006 and 2010), and a Republican, Vernon Harrison, in the November general election, and won handily in the overwhelmingly Democratic district. Due to redirecting in Massachusetts in 2013, Lynch decided to run for the new 8th district in Massachusetts. He faced Republican Joe Selvaggi in new 8th Congressional District and won in a landslide. His new district includes new towns like Quincy, Massachusetts and some of the towns on the South Shore.

Famous quotes containing the word campaigns:
“That food has always been, and will continue to be, the basis for one of our greater snobbisms does not explain the fact that the attitude toward the food choice of others is becoming more and more heatedly exclusive until it may well turn into one of those forms of bigotry against which gallant little committees are constantly planning campaigns in the cause of justice and decency.”
—Cornelia Otis Skinner (19011979)
