Famous quotes containing the words star, empire and/or strikes:

    In Washington, the first thing people tell you is what their job is. In Los Angeles you learn their star sign. In Houston you’re told how rich they are. And in New York they tell you what their rent is.
    Simon Hoggart (b. 1946)

    To found a great empire for the sole purpose of raising up a people of customers, may at first sight appear a project fit only for a nation of shopkeepers. It is, however, a project altogether unfit for a nation of shopkeepers, but extremely fit for a nation that is governed by shopkeepers.
    Adam Smith (1723–1790)

    But he her fears to cease
    Sent down the meek-eyed Peace;
    She, crowned with olive green, came softly sliding
    Down through the turning sphere,
    His ready harbinger,
    With turtle wing the amorous clouds dividing,
    And waving wide her myrtle wand,
    She strikes a universal peace through sea and land.
    John Milton (1608–1674)
