Star Candidate

A star candidate refers to a high profile individual who has been recruited as a candidate by a political party. Star candidates have usually excelled in fields outside of politics such as academia, business, the media, journalism and/or sports. They are also either retired high-profile politicians who have been lured back into politics or a big-city mayor or provincial premier/state governor who has been convinced to enter federal politics. Or former politicians that have been lured to run at another level to attain high-profile positions at that level.

Famous quotes containing the words star and/or candidate:

    The flame from the angel’s sword in the garden of Eden has been catalysed into the atom bomb; God’s thunderbolt became blunted, so man’s dunderbolt has become the steel star of destruction.
    Sean O’Casey (1884–1964)

    Hear, then, a mortal Muse thy praise rehearse,
    In no ignoble verse;
    But such as thy own voice did practise here,
    When thy first-fruits of Poesy were given,
    To make thyself a welcome inmate there;
    While yet a young probationer,
    And candidate of Heaven.
    John Dryden (1631–1700)
