Famous quotes containing the words mark and/or eve:

There mark what ills the scholar’s life assail,
Toil, envy, want, the patron, and the gaol.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

“Adam knew Eve his wife and she conceived.” It is a pity that this is still the only knowledge of their wives at which some men seem to arrive.
