St. Joseph's College Melbourne - College Crest

College Crest

At the time of amalgamation in 2000 a new logo was developed to represent the College. This logo, set on a traditional heraldic background in the College colours, features a rampant Gryphon protecting a shining star and includes the words, "Luceat Lux Vestra". The Logo appeared on the newly designed College uniform and various publications including Cynosura, the college Annual.

Famous quotes containing the words college and/or crest:

    The logical English train a scholar as they train an engineer. Oxford is Greek factory, as Wilton mills weave carpet, and Sheffield grinds steel. They know the use of a tutor, as they know the use of a horse; and they draw the greatest amount of benefit from both. The reading men are kept by hard walking, hard riding, and measured eating and drinking, at the top of their condition, and two days before the examination, do not work but lounge, ride, or run, to be fresh on the college doomsday.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    What shall he have that killed the deer?
    His leather skin and horns to wear.
    Then sing him home.
    Take thou no scorn to wear the horn,
    It was a crest ere thou wast born;
    Thy father’s father wore it,
    And thy father bore it.
    The horn, the horn, the lusty horn
    Is not a thing to laugh to scorn.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
