St Helens RFC
St Helens Rugby League Football Club, nicknamed Saints, are a professional rugby league club from St Helens in North West England who play in the Super League. Nicknamed Saints, they were a founder member of the Northern Rugby Football Union. They have been league champions on 12 occasions and runners up 12 times. St Helens are also the second most successful side in the Challenge Cup, their 12 wins placing them behind only rivals Wigan, and have appeared in 21 finals.
In the 2011 season, they played at the Halton Stadium and moved into their new home, the new Langtree Stadium at Peasley Cross Lane, St Helens in January 2012.
The acting head coach at St Helens is former assistant coach under Daniel Anderson and Head of High Performance, Mike Rush. Rush took over as coach after the departure of Royce Simmons in March 2012. Following the retirement of current Assistant Coach Keiron Cunningham at the end of the 2010 season, the position of club captain at St Helens is shared between Paul Wellens and James Roby.
Their most recent success in the Challenge Cup came when they won the 2008 Challenge Cup, retaining the cup for a third successive year by defeating Hull 28-16 at Wembley Stadium with Wellens receiving the Lance Todd Trophy for his Man of the match display. They last won the Super League title in the 2006 Super League Grand Final, again defeating Hull, but have since lost five consecutive finals, four to Leeds with the other being to local rivals Wigan. They won the League Leader's Shield an unprecedented 4 consecutive times in Super League—between Super League X and Super League XIII.
