Sporting Tradition
All students are required to participate in summer and winter sports, and teams go according to age groups (Under 14, 15, 16 and Open) to compete against other schools. The primary sports in the high school are rugby union, cricket, soccer, swimming, waterpolo and hockey. In winter, the school fields about 15 rugby teams and 10 hockey teams every week. The school is also successful in a number of smaller sports like tennis, canoeing and cross country. The school colours are blue and gold, but it is a tradition that first teams wear black and gold.

Famous quotes containing the words sporting and/or tradition:
“The Boston papers had never told me that there were seals in the harbor. I had always associated these with the Esquimaux and other outlandish people. Yet from the parlor windows all along the coast you may see families of them sporting on the flats. They were as strange to me as the merman would be. Ladies who never walk in the woods, sail over the sea. To go to sea! Why, it is to have the experience of Noah,to realize the deluge. Every vessel is an ark.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“And hereby hangs a moral highly applicable to our own trustee-ridden universities, if to nothing else. If we really wanted liberty of speech and thought, we could probably get itSpain fifty years ago certainly had a longer tradition of despotism than has the United Statesbut do we want it? In these years we will see.”
—John Dos Passos (18961970)
