Other Spitting Species
Some nonspitting cobras and vipers have been noted to spit occasionally. Certain predominantly Asian cobras have the spitting tendency. The rinkhals (Hemachatus haemachatus) is another elapid species, which, while not belonging to the cobra genus Naja, is closely related and is capable of spitting venom.
Several viper species (notably the Mangshan pitviper) have been reported to "fling" or even spit venom forward in a spray when threatened. These sprays are often very consistent.

Famous quotes containing the words spitting and/or species:
“The boundary line between self and external world bears no relation to reality; the distinction between ego and world is made by spitting out part of the inside, and swallowing in part of the outside.”
—Norman O. Brown (b. 1913)
“Books, gentlemen, are a species of men, and introduced to them you circulate in the very best society that this world can furnish, without the intolerable infliction of dressing to go into it. In your shabbiest coat and cosiest slippers you may socially chat even with the fastidious Earl of Chesterfield, and lounging under a tree enjoy the divinest intimacy with my late lord of Verulam.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
