Spirit Level - Sensitivity

Sensitivity

The sensitivity is an important specification for a spirit level. The overall accuracy of the device depends on its sensitivity. The sensitivity of a level is defined as the change of angle or gradient required to move the bubble by unit distance. If the bubble housing has graduated divisions then the sensitivity refers to the angle or gradient change required to move the bubble by one of these divisions. Sensitivity of a spirit level is expressed in mm/m. 2mm is the standard spacing for graduations. The standard sensitivity for a machinst level is .0005 inch per 2mm division (10 seconds arc).
