Spencer W. Kimball - Ministry As President of The Church

Ministry As President of The Church

Kimball had a vision of a greatly expanded ministry. He urged church members to pray for more nations to be opened to the preaching of the gospel. He constantly counseled church members to "lengthen their stride". Temple building went forward at a pace never before seen in the church. One of these temples was built in São Paulo, Brazil and it was the faithfulness of such African descended church members as Helvécio Martins and others in contributing toward the construction of the temple, that was one of the examples of faithfulness that caused Kimball to so often and so strongly supplicate the Lord on the issue of the ordination of brethren of African descent to the priesthood.

Famous quotes containing the words ministry, president and/or church:

    the eave-drops fall
Heard only in the trances of the blast,
Or if the secret ministry of frost
Shall hang them up in silent icicles,
Quietly shining to the quiet Moon.
    Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834)

Taft, laughing, “What troubles [brother] Charles is, he is afraid Roosevelt will get the credit of making me President and not himself.” To Charles: “I will agree not to minimize the part you played in making me President if you will agree not to minimize the part Roosevelt played.”
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

That poor little thing was a good woman, Judge. But she just sort of let life get the upper hand. She was born here and she wanted to be buried here. I promised her on her deathbed she’d have a funeral in a church with flowers. And the sun streamin’ through a pretty window on her coffin. And a hearse with plumes and some hacks. And a preacher to read the Bible. And folks there in church to pray for her soul.
    Laurence Stallings (1804–1968)
