Influences and Comedy
Spede Pasanen named Bob Hope as one of his biggest comedy influences.
Spede Pasanen is considered emblematic of Savonian humor with a slick ironic patter varying between the fullest extremes of understatement and hyperbole. As he himself explained: "A Savonian never tells a thing exactly like it is." Although Spede vociferously denounced elitism and explicitly sought to write and perform comedy for the largest possible audience, he was frequently the person who evinced greatest amusement at his own gags and bon mots.

Famous quotes containing the words influences and/or comedy:
“The first in time and the first in importance of the influences upon the mind is that of nature. Every day, the sun; and after sunset, night and her stars. Ever the winds blow; ever the grass grows.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“It is comedy which typifies, where it is tragedy which individualizes; where tragedy observes the nice distinctions between man and man, comedy stresses those broad resemblances which make it difficult to tell people apart.”
—Harry Levin (b. 1912)
