Spartacist Uprising - Beginning

Beginning

Several workers spontaneously seized the editorial office of one newspaper in the Kochstraße in Berlin and erected barricades on the streets. This attracted more workers who blocked further streets in the newspaper quarter- including the office of Germany's Social Democrat SPD organ "Forward" (Vorwärts). This Social Democrat paper had printed articles hostile to the Spartacists since the beginning of September.

Famous quotes containing the word beginning:

In the beginning was the Word. Man acts it out. He is the act, not the actor.
    Henry Miller (1891–1980)

There is no more miserable human being than one in whom nothing is habitual but indecision, and for whom the lighting of every cigar, the drinking of every cup, the time of rising and going to bed every day, and the beginning of every bit of work, are subjects of express volitional deliberation.
    William James (1842–1910)

Stupid word, that. Period. In America it means “full stop” like in punctuation. That’s stupid as well. A period isn’t a full stop. It’s a new beginning. I don’t mean all that creativity, life-giving force, earth-mother stuff, I mean it’s a new beginning to the month, relief that you’re not pregnant, when you don’t have to have a child.
    Michelene Wandor (b. 1940)
