Southwestern High School (Kentucky) - Conservation and Raptor Club

Conservation and Raptor Club

The Conservation and Raptor Club at Southwestern High School has been going on for about 15 years. It is led by Mrs. Carter the Raptor Bio teacher. The Conservation club studies all kinds of environmental subjects such as wildlife, biodiversity, aquatics, etc. and competes yearly at regional, state, and national competitions with other schools. The Raptor club help heal injured birds from all over the state. Students in the club rehabilitate these birds back to health. Some of the birds are released back into the wild and others are kept all their lives for being trained to go into presentations. There are many types of birds that go into this club such as GHO or great horned owls, crows, screech owls, barred owls, barn owls, and red tail hawks and bald eagles. The facility that these birds are kept in are paid for by Mrs. Carter and other people and the school does not support this club. It is all paid for by donations from other people and students/parents/teachers.

Famous quotes containing the words conservation and/or club:

A country grows in history not only because of the heroism of its troops on the field of battle, it grows also when it turns to justice and to right for the conservation of its interests.
    Aristide Briand (1862–1932)

Of course we women gossip on occasion. But our appetite for it is not as avid as a man’s. It is in the boys’ gyms, the college fraternity houses, the club locker rooms, the paneled offices of business that gossip reaches its luxuriant flower.
    Phyllis McGinley (1905–1978)
