Judging Process
Most categories are judged by panels of unpaid, independent judges drawn from the broadcast and print media, as well as freelance writers and critics, performing musicians, and from academia. Entries are submitted by record companies belonging to RISA but the body of judges, which numbers a couple of hundred people, is chosen specifically for its lack of formal involvement with the record industry. Unlike some "academies", the body of SAMA judges is constantly evolving to introduce new expertise and opinion.

Famous quotes containing the words judging and/or process:
“you were with me all day; stood with me, sat with me, talked with me, looked at me, ate with me, drank with me; and yet, your last act was to clutch for a monster, not only an innocent man, but the most pitiable of all men. So far may even the best man err, in judging the conduct of one with the recesses of whose condition he is not acquainted.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
“The toddlers wish to please ... is a powerful aid in helping the child to develop a social awareness and, eventually, a moral conscience. The childs love for the parent is so strong that it causes him to change his behavior: to refrain from hitting and biting, to share toys with a peer, to become toilet trained. This wish for approval is the parents most reliable ally in the process of socializing the child.”
—Alicia F. Lieberman (20th century)
