South Acton (MBTA Station)

South Acton is a station on the MBTA Fitchburg Line in Acton, Massachusetts. The station is owned by the Town of Acton and is located at 10 Central Street near Massachusetts Route 27. It is the busiest station on the Fitchburg line, accounting for roughly 856 weekday passenger boardings, generating 15% of the line's traffic.

The station is 25.06 miles (40.3 km) away from North Station. While most trains on the Fitchburg Line run to Fitchburg, some trains terminate at South Acton instead, and the line is sometimes referred to as the Fitchburg/South Acton Line by MBTA. The station is located in fare zone 6.

As part of a $277 million project upgrading the Fitchburg Line, South Acton station will be completely rebuilt from 2012 to 2014. The rebuilt station will have two handicapped-accessible high-level platforms connected with an overhead pedestrian bridge, as well as a drop-off lot off Maple Street.

Famous quotes containing the word south:

If you are one of the hewers of wood and drawers of small weekly paychecks, your letters will have to contain some few items of news or they will be accounted dry stuff.... But if you happen to be of a literary turn of mind, or are, in any way, likely to become famous, you may settle down to an afternoon of letter-writing on nothing more sprightly in the way of news than the shifting of the wind from south to south-east.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)
