Sonora Matancera - Stylistic Changes

Stylistic Changes

Besides personnel and instrumentation changes, La Sonora Matancera underwent stylistic changes. An important example is the following. In 1950, the conjunto expanded to big band (orquesta) size, making a series of recordings with Daniel Santos, the esteemed Puerto Rican singer and composer who had recorded with the collective since 1948, and whose five year stay with La Sonora helped it achieve world-wide fame. Though these met with approval, the orquesta reverted back to being a conjunto.

Famous quotes containing the word stylistic:

Simile and Metaphor differ only in degree of stylistic refinement. The Simile, in which a comparison is made directly between two objects, belongs to an earlier stage of literary expression; it is the deliberate elaboration of a correspondence, often pursued for its own sake. But a Metaphor is the swift illumination of an equivalence. Two images, or an idea and an image, stand equal and opposite; clash together and respond significantly, surprising the reader with a sudden light.
    Sir Herbert Read (1893–1968)
