Son of Schmilsson is the eighth album by Harry Nilsson. Nilsson was being pressured to produce a follow-up album similar to his 1971 breakthrough, Nilsson Schmilsson, but, instead, he cut a more eccentric album.
Most of the recording sessions for this album were extensively filmed at the request of Nilsson. They were to be edited for a planned documentary called, Did Somebody Drop His Mouse?, which was never released commercially.
The album was remastered and released on CD with two bonus tracks in 2000 and with five bonus tracks in 2006.

Famous quotes containing the words son of and/or son:
“Son of the village chief,
youre pitiless,
scared of your wife
and as difficult to see
as a worm in bitter fruit.
The village is starving itself over you
in spite of it all.”
—Hla Stavhana (c. 50 A.D.)
“Gargantua, at the age of four hundred four score and forty- four years begat his son Pantagruel, from his wife, named Badebec, daughter of the King of the Amaurotes in Utopia, who died in child-birth: because he was marvelously huge and so heavy that he could not come to light without suffocating his mother.”
—François Rabelais (14941553)
