Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em - in Popular Culture

In Popular Culture

  • In The Now Show, Prince Edward is usually portrayed as Frank Spencer by Hugh Dennis. In an episode from June 2010, the show had a sketch where Fabio Capello used Frank Spencer impressions as a motivational strategy for the England World Cup Squad.
  • The show, and the character of Frank Spencer specifically, have even been mentioned several times in the British House of Commons, including when Labour Party leader John Smith taunted Prime Minister John Major in a speech in 1993, by saying recent government mishaps would be considered 'too much' if submitted to the show's producers by script-writers.
  • The comic Russell Brand incorporated some of Frank Spencer's mannerism in his weekly radio shows on Radio 2, most notably "Cat done a whoopsie on the carpet."

Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:

The best of us would rather be popular than right.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

All our civilization had meant nothing. The same culture that had nurtured the kindly enlightened people among whom I had been brought up, carried around with it war. Why should I not have known this? I did know it, but I did not believe it. I believed it as we believe we are going to die. Something that is to happen in some remote time.
    Mary Heaton Vorse (1874–1966)
