SMS Novara

Two ships of the Austro-Hungarian Navy have been named SMS Novara after the Battle of Novara (1849):

  • SMS Novara (1850), a sail frigate most noted for its 1857 - 1859 around-the-world scientific expedition, and also for carrying Archduke Maximillian to the Americas where he was proclaimed Maximilian I of Mexico.
  • SMS Novara (1913), a Rapidkreuzer-class light cruiser that launched in 1913, and was transferred to France as a war prize after World War I.
