Membership Classes
There were originally three classes of membership:
- Real Engineers actually employed as such
- "Men of science and gentlemen of rank and fortune who have applied their minds to ... Civil Engineering".
- "Various artists whose professions and employments are necessary and useful to ... Civil Engineering".

Famous quotes containing the words membership and/or classes:
“The two real political parties in America are the Winners and the Losers. The people dont acknowledge this. They claim membership in two imaginary parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, instead.”
—Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (b. 1922)
“Whats the greatest enemy of Christianity to-day? Frozen meat. In the past only members of the upper classes were thoroughly sceptical, despairing, negative. Why? Among other reasons, because they were the only people who could afford to eat too much meat. Now theres cheap Canterbury lamb and Argentine chilled beef. Even the poor can afford to poison themselves into complete scepticism and despair.”
—Aldous Huxley (18941963)
