Smart Forfour - Expected Second Generation

Expected Second Generation

Initiated by Penske Automotive Group Inc. (the company previously holding the rights to market and distribute smarts in the USA) due to perceived customer demand, a second generation Forfour was set to begin production in 2012. It was going to be based on the latest generation of the Nissan Micra due to a joint venture between Daimler AG and Renault-Nissan in 2010. The 2012 model would have been available only to the USA as a stop-gap to a possible true second generation forfour rumoured to be coming in 2014–2015. However, after Daimler AG cancelled its agreement with Penske, thus assuming direct control over the smart brand and its dealerships in the USA, the Micra-based forfour was formally cancelled and will now not be built.

A new Smart Fortwo and Forfour built on a Renault base, rather than the Mitsubishi, are scheduled for 2013–2014.

Famous quotes containing the words expected and/or generation:

Of course, some men are very effective caregivers [of elderly parents]. But this situation occurs far less frequently for males than females, because it is a role reversal. For women, caregiving is an expected duty; for men, it is an unexpected expression of love or devotion.
    Tish Sommers (20th century)

The women of my mother’s generation had, in the main, only one decision to make about their lives: who they would marry. From that, so much else followed: where they would live, in what sort of conditions, whether they would be happy or sad or, so often, a bit of both. There were roles and there were rules.
    Anna Quindlen (20th century)
