Sid Krofft - False Family History

False Family History

For most of Krofft's life, he and his family's history was publicly presented as true when it was actually concocted by a publicity agent in the 1940s. In a Los Angeles Times article in 2008, Sid and his brother Marty admitted the deception, mentioning that even young family members possessed incorrect information, believing some of the fiction as fact. Most authoritative sources before 2008 considered the agent's fiction as fact. For example, Krofft's family was reportedly five generations of puppeteers in Greece, and Sid's birthplace was originally Athens. Sid's original name was designated Cydus Yolas.

Famous quotes containing the words false, family and/or history:

If I should go out of church whenever I hear a false statement I could never stay there five minutes. But why come out? The street is as false as the church, and when I get to my house, or to my manners, or to my speech, I have not got away from the lie.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Nobody has ever before asked the nuclear family to live all by itself in a box the way we do. With no relatives, no support, we’ve put it in an impossible situation.
    Margaret Mead (1901–1978)

In front of these sinister facts, the first lesson of history is the good of evil. Good is a good doctor, but Bad is sometimes a better.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
