Showcase (retailer) - Media and Reaction

Media and Reaction

Showcase has been covered in the media usually during the Christmas holiday season as a place to find unique gifts or to find out in person whether or not infomercial products “really work”. This interest has been generated because these products are not typically available for customers to try until they have been purchased, usually from the U.S., while in store customers are able to test the products for themselves or receive a demonstration. Showcase has been featured on:

- Breakfast Television on December 24, 2010 - A-Channel Victoria on December 16, 2010 - Global Television on Dec 2, 2008 - Breakfast Television on Nov 25, 2008 - CityNews on Dec 24, 2007 - Breakfast Television on Dec 17, 2007 - Global Morning Show on Dec 14, 2007 - Global News on Dec 6, 2007 - Toronto Star on Jan 7, 2006

Aside from demonstrations, Showcase also hosts in-store events at select locations from time to time. For example, in 2007 the company began to carry a line of pillows from the “Pillow Fight Federation” that were specifically designed to fight with, and then hosted pillow fighting in-store.

Famous quotes containing the words media and, media and/or reaction:

Few white citizens are acquainted with blacks other than those projected by the media and the so—called educational system, which is nothing more than a system of rewards and punishments based upon one’s ability to pledge loyalty oaths to Anglo culture. The media and the “educational system” are the prime sources of racism in the United States.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)

One can describe a landscape in many different words and sentences, but one would not normally cut up a picture of a landscape and rearrange it in different patterns in order to describe it in different ways. Because a photograph is not composed of discrete units strung out in a linear row of meaningful pieces, we do not understand it by looking at one element after another in a set sequence. The photograph is understood in one act of seeing; it is perceived in a gestalt.
Joshua Meyrowitz, U.S. educator, media critic. “The Blurring of Public and Private Behaviors,” No Sense of Place: The Impact of Electronic Media on Social Behavior, Oxford University Press (1985)

Children, randomly at first, hit upon something sooner or later that is their mother’s and/or father’s Achilles’ heel, a kind of behavior that especially upsets, offends, irritates or embarrasses them. One parent dislikes name-calling, another teasing...another bathroom jokes. For the parents, this behavior my have ties back to their childhood, many have been something not allowed, forbidden, and when it appears in the child, it causes high-voltage reaction in the parent.
