The United States Coast Guard (USCG) Short Range Prosecutor is a 7 meter, high speed launch designed to be launched from cutters, at speed, from a stern launching ramp. The Short Range Prosecutor is a rigid-hull inflatable, powered by water-jets, for intercepting and boarding suspect vessels. It mounts a radar, special shock-proof seats, and can travel at 30 knots.
The refitted Island class Patrol cutters, part of the Deepwater program, were each to carry one Short Range Prosecutor. The Marine Protector cutters each carry one Short Range Prosecutor. The new Sentinel class cutters will carry one Short Range Prosecutor. The proposed National Security Cutters and the proposed Offshore Patrol Cutters will have two rear launching ramps, and will carry two launches, either two Short Range Prosecutors, or two of the larger USCG Long Range Interceptors, or one of each.
Famous quotes containing the words short and/or range:
“I had some short struggle in my mind whether I should resign my lover or my liberty, but this lasted not long. I found myself as free as air and could not bear the thought of putting myself in any mans power for life only from a present capricious inclination.”
—Sarah Fielding (17101768)
“We must continually remind students in the classroom that expression of different opinions and dissenting ideas affirms the intellectual process. We should forcefully explain that our role is not to teach them to think as we do but rather to teach them, by example, the importance of taking a stance that is rooted in rigorous engagement with the full range of ideas about a topic.”
—bell hooks (b. 1955)
