Shizuoka Railway - Lines

Lines

At present, the company operates only one LRT, the Interurban Shizuoka-Shimizu Line, which runs for 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) from Shin-Shizuoka Station to Shin-Shimizu Station with 13 intermediate stops, and one ropeway, the Nihondaira Ropeway. Its extensive highway bus system was spun off to a subsidiary company, Shizutetsu Justline in 2002.

Defunct LRT lines include:

  • Shizuoka City Line (静岡市内線, Shizuoka shinai-sen?), 1922-1962.
  • Shimizu City Line (清水市内線, Shimizu shinai-sen?), 1928-1975.
  • Sun-en Line (駿遠線, Sun-en-sen?), 1911-1970.
  • Akiba Line (秋葉線, Akiba-sen?), 1902-1962.

Famous quotes containing the word lines:

It is the Late city that first defies the land, contradicts Nature in the lines of its silhouette, denies all Nature. It wants to be something different from and higher than Nature. These high-pitched gables, these Baroque cupolas, spires, and pinnacles, neither are, nor desire to be, related with anything in Nature. And then begins the gigantic megalopolis, the city-as-world, which suffers nothing beside itself and sets about annihilating the country picture.
    Oswald Spengler (1880–1936)

We stand in the tumult of a festival.
What festival? This loud, disordered mooch?
    These hospitaliers? These brute-like guests?
These musicians dubbing at a tragedy,
A-dub, a-dub, which is made up of this:
That there are no lines to speak? There is no play.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

Indeed, I believe that in the future, when we shall have seized again, as we will seize if we are true to ourselves, our own fair part of commerce upon the sea, and when we shall have again our appropriate share of South American trade, that these railroads from St. Louis, touching deep harbors on the gulf, and communicating there with lines of steamships, shall touch the ports of South America and bring their tribute to you.
    Benjamin Harrison (1833–1901)
