Fame and Tragedy

After his death the estate was managed by one of his daughters, Lorna, and her husband John Harvey. They had four children, who grew up at the estate. They were filmed by the British Broadcasting Corporation travelogue series Pole to Pole, which included actor Michael Palin's visit to the estate. But only six months later in 1991, Lorna and John Harvey were murdered in Lusaka by three men who were caught and convicted. They were ANC members living in exile in Zambia. Famous quotes containing the words fame and/or tragedy:

Those poor farmers who came up, that day, to defend their native soil, acted from the simplest of instincts. They did not know it was a deed of fame they were doing. These men did not babble of glory. They never dreamed their children would contend who had done the most. They supposed they had a right to their corn and their cattle, without paying tribute to any but their governors. And as they had no fear of man, they yet did have a fear of God.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

You get tragedy where the tree, instead of bending, breaks.
    Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889–1951)
