Initial Construction
The Sherway Gardens mall, a $21.5 million project, was revealed to the public by Sherway Gardens Limited on February 24, 1971. The mall was originally built in an “S” shape design. Communal events and promotional activities took place at the center of the mall. This location was exceptionally popular because of the 31 ft high skylight featured there. Similar to other shopping centres, Sherway Gardens contains fountains, lush indoor greenery, benches and couches to help maximize the experience and enjoyment of shopping. Unlike the designs of other malls, such as the Toronto Eaton Centre, Sherway Gardens was built with “intimate low ceilings” which provides an inviting atmosphere for shoppers.
