She Shan Basilica
The National Shrine and Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Sheshan (Chinese: 佘山進教之佑聖母大殿; pinyin: Shéshān jìnjiào zhī yòu shèngmǔ dàdiàn) also known as Basilica of Mary, Help of Christians is a prominent Roman Catholic church in Shanghai, China. The name comes from its location on the western peak of She Shan Hill, located in Songjiang District, to the west of Shanghai's metropolitan area.
Since the Cultural Revolution, the national shrine is the first historical basilica in Eastern Asia. It was previously called Zose Basilica in English, using the Shanghainese pronunciation of 佘山 (She Shan). Inside the shrine, the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Mary Help of Christians is venerated as the patroness of the basilica, along with the recently constructed image of Our Mother of Sheshan, both venerated by Chinese Catholics.

Famous quotes containing the words shan and/or basilica:
“Grandparents can be role models about areas that may not be significant to young children directly but that can teach them about patience and courage when we are ill, or handicapped by problems of aging. Our attitudes toward retirement, marriage, recreation, even our feelings about death and dying may make much more of an impression than we realize.”
—Eda Le Shan (20th century)
“Christians are to be taught that the pope would and should wish to give of his own money, even though he had to sell the basilica of St. Peter, to many of those from whom certain hawkers of indulgences cajole money.”
—Martin Luther (14831546)
