She Couldn't Say No (1930 Film) - Synopsis

Synopsis

Winnie Lightner plays the part of a nightclub entertainer. This club is owned by a notorious gangster named Big John (played by Tully Marshall). Chester Morris, a gangster, begins dating Lightner and becomes her manager in an attempt to go straight. Morris manages to put Lightner in fancy society nightclub. Morris, however, falls in love with a rich customer, played by Sally Eilers. In order to be able to buy gifts worthy of his new socialite girlfriend, and also to get money for Lightner's upcoming revue, Morris asks Big John for another job. Morris tells Lightner about his love for Eilers but she disproves and thinks that Eilers is not serious about their relationship. Later on, Morris gets arrested and Lightner pays his bail, but is broken hearted when Morris leaves her to return to Eilers. Lightner, with the help of Johnny Arthur, her pianist, lands a job in a revue and attempts to forget Morris. Nevertheless, when she hears that Morris is in trouble with his fellow gang members, she goes to try to help him.
