Self-phase Modulation - Mitigation Strategies in DWDM Systems

Mitigation Strategies in DWDM Systems

In long-haul single-channel and DWDM systems SPM is one of the most important reach limiting nonlinear effects. It can be reduced by:

  • Lowering the optical power at the expense of increased noise
  • Dispersion management, because dispersion can partly mitigate the SPM effect

Famous quotes containing the words mitigation, strategies and/or systems:

Law is a thing which is insensible, and inexorable, more beneficial and more profitious to the weak than to the strong; it admits of no mitigation nor pardon, once you have overstepped its limits.
    Titus Livius (Livy)

By intervening in the Vietnamese struggle the United States was attempting to fit its global strategies into a world of hillocks and hamlets, to reduce its majestic concerns for the containment of communism and the security of the Free World to a dimension where governments rose and fell as a result of arguments between two colonels’ wives.
    Frances Fitzgerald (b. 1940)

What is most original in a man’s nature is often that which is most desperate. Thus new systems are forced on the world by men who simply cannot bear the pain of living with what is. Creators care nothing for their systems except that they be unique. If Hitler had been born in Nazi Germany he wouldn’t have been content to enjoy the atmosphere.
    Leonard Cohen (b. 1934)
