It grossed $84,216,833 in North America, and earned $181,466,833 worldwide, lower than the $275,650,700 worldwide Scooby-Doo grossed two years earlier. It also ranked #1 at the box office. It is the 28th most successful film of 2004.
Despite its major box-office success, the critical response was negative, with 113 reviews counted it scored 21% on the film-critics aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes,* and a 34% from the similar site Metacritic, based on 38 reviews, indicating "Generally negative reviews".
The film had won a Razzie Award for "Worst Remake or Sequel".
