Scaly-breasted Munia - Status and Conservation

Status and Conservation

The Scaly-breasted Munia is not globally threatened and is common to very common throughout most of its range. However, it is somewhat uncommon on some islands of Lesser Sundas. The Scaly-breasted Munia was first seen in W & S Borneo, and may have been introduced or possibly colonized from elsewhere. It was introduced in various other parts of the world either deliberately or accidentally through escaped cage birds in locations such as Australia. In many areas it is regarded as an agricultural pest, feeding in large flocks on cultivated cereal grains and rice. In Southeast Asia, the Scaly-breasted Munia is widely trapped in large numbers for Buddhist religious purposes, but most birds are later released.

Famous quotes containing the words status and/or conservation:

Recent studies that have investigated maternal satisfaction have found this to be a better prediction of mother-child interaction than work status alone. More important for the overall quality of interaction with their children than simply whether the mother works or not, these studies suggest, is how satisfied the mother is with her role as worker or homemaker. Satisfied women are consistently more warm, involved, playful, stimulating and effective with their children than unsatisfied women.
    Alison Clarke-Stewart (20th century)

A country grows in history not only because of the heroism of its troops on the field of battle, it grows also when it turns to justice and to right for the conservation of its interests.
    Aristide Briand (1862–1932)
