Language

Sayisi Dene speak the Dene Suline language, of the Athabaskan linguistic group. Teaching their language to children and young adults who became English language speakers in Churchill is a priority. Elder Betsy Anderson said:

“There was a time when all the people and all the animals understood each other and spoke the same language. ("Yanízį Denesųłiné chu tįch’adíe įłághe yati hot’a ʔełnedárení hél tth’i ʔełedárí tth’agh nisnį.")

Famous quotes containing the word language:

They who in folly or mere greed
    Enslaved religion, markets, laws,
Borrow our language now and bid
Us to speak up in freedom’s cause.
    Cecil Day Lewis (1904–1972)

A language does not become fixed. The human intellect is always on the march, or, if you prefer, in movement, and languages with it.
    Victor Hugo (1802–1885)

This poem is concerned with language on a very plain level.
Look at it talking to you.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
