It was released in the UK on September 5, 1994 and went straight to number one - dethroning Wet Wet Wet's 15 week chart-topper "Love Is All Around", despite that single increasing its sales from 65,000 the previous week to 104,000, when Saturday Night entered at number 1 with sales of 150,000. Whigfield was the first act to debut at number one in the UK charts with their debut single.

It stayed at number one for a total of four weeks selling 680,000 in the process, and has sold a total of 1,140,000 copies, placing it at number 74 in the UK all-time best-selling list published in November 2012.

Famous quotes containing the words chart and/or performances:

Perhaps in His wisdom the Almighty is trying to show us that a leader may chart the way, may point out the road to lasting peace, but that many leaders and many peoples must do the building.
    Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962)

At one of the later performances you asked why they called it a “miracle,”
Since nothing ever happened. That, of course, was the miracle
But you wanted to know why so much action took on so much life
And still managed to remain itself, aloof, smiling and courteous.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
