San Antonio Police Department

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) is the municipal law enforcement agency of the city of San Antonio in the U.S. state of Texas. It is headquartered in Downtown San Antonio at 315 South Santa Rosa Street.

The department can trace its beginnings to 1846 when the first City Marshal was appointed. The city had its laws enforced only by Texas Rangers and the City Marshals until the police force became modernized in 1875 when they were issued uniforms. Today, SAPD has over 2,100 sworn officers.

The gold-digger in the ravines of the mountains is as much a gambler as his fellow in the saloons of San Francisco. What difference does it make whether you shake dirt or shake dice? If you win, society is the loser.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Socialism can only arrive by bicycle.
—José Antonio Viera Gallo (b. 1943)

Now, honestly: if a large group of ... demonstrators blocked the entrances to St. Patrick’s Cathedral every Sunday for years, making it impossible for worshipers to get inside the church without someone escorting them through screaming crowds, wouldn’t some judge rule that those protesters could keep protesting, but behind police lines and out of the doorways?
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1953)

While the focus in the landscape of Old World cities was commonly government structures, churches, or the residences of rulers, the landscape and the skyline of American cities have boasted their hotels, department stores, office buildings, apartments, and skyscrapers. In this grandeur, Americans have expressed their Booster Pride, their hopes for visitors and new settlers, and customers, for thriving commerce and industry.
    Daniel J. Boorstin (b. 1914)
