Salvador Minuchin - Minuchin Center For The Family

Minuchin Center For The Family

When Minuchin moved to New York in 1981, he established the Minuchin Family Center, a center where he could teach family therapists and interface directly with the foster care system through consultation services (Nichols, 2010). The center is non-profit and offers programs designed for training and consultation with families that are affected by low socioeconomic status, substance abuse, homelessness, and family members with psychological disorders. While Minuchin himself is a structurally oriented family therapist, the Minuchin Center currently has a postmodern orientation towards therapy (Nichols, 2010).

Famous quotes containing the words center and/or family:

Louise Bryant: I’m sorry if you don’t believe in mutual independence and free love and respect.
Eugene O’Neill: Don’t give me a lot of parlor socialism that you learned in the village. If you were mine, I wouldn’t share you with anybody or anything. It would be just you and me. You’d be at the center of it all. You know it would feel a lot more like love than being left alone with your work.
    Warren Beatty (b. 1937)

In the U.S. for instance, the value of a homemaker’s productive work has been imputed mostly when she was maimed or killed and insurance companies and/or the courts had to calculate the amount to pay her family in damages. Even at that, the rates were mostly pink collar and the big number was attributed to the husband’s pain and suffering.
    Gloria Steinem (20th century)
